For those of you I haven’t met yet, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Alice Lamb and I am the Business Development Manager for Works 4U. I’d like to start by wishing you all a belated Happy New Year!

Works 4U is the social enterprise arm of the Hammersmith & Fulham Volunteer Centre & Brent Active Citizens. We work closely with both Business & the Community to create volunteering opportunities, helping companies to fulfil CSR objectives. We are currently running an effective Employer Supported Volunteering Service and developing Works 4U further.

It has been a busy few months, with us managing to run 4 volunteer challenges in December alone, with the likes of Disney, Element Six & Dairy Crest. The Christmas Gift Drive was another huge success with piles of gifts donated and 50 volunteers gift wrapping on board to help us prepare to distribute these to those in need. Thank you to all involved.

We are currently in the process of organising our first ever Charity Ball- which will take place on 15 June 2012 at Chelsea Football Club. Special celebrity guests have been confirmed and are to be announced soon! Please contact me for more details.

Last December, Works 4U brought together Disney and Bishop Creighton House to participate in their third annual Christmas Party for service users and members. The aim of the challenge was to bring a fun and vibrant Christmas Celebration to the elderly people who frequently use the centre.

Works 4U played a large part in organising and running the opening event of the brand new £1million children’s and community centre on the Fulham Court Estate.

Hammersmith Academy - Works 4U brought together Betfair and Active Planet to participate in a sporting challenge which would make a valid contribution to the students from Hammersmith Academy. Active Planet strongly advocates the need to use sports as a tool to break down barriers within deprived communities and to create opportunities for disadvantaged youths. This attracted the attention of Betfair, which is an online leisure website offering a range of other sports betting products, casino games and poker. Together, both organisations wanted to do something positive for the community and for the students at Hammersmith Academy. This challenge instilled discipline, focus and drive, as well as giving the kids a sense of achievement.
